DRIVEN CLASSES

 

• The pony or ponies:

  • must be 4 years old or over.

  • may be shod.

  • Mares with foal at foot are not accepted.

  • Stallions are not authorised for drivers less than 10 years old.

• Equipment:

  • The vehicle (2 or 4 wheels) and the harness must be clean, well fitting and in good condition.

  • There is no specific vehicle width (courses width will be adjusted accordingly.

  • The driving whip should be adapted to the vehicle size and number of ponies. All abusive use of the whip will be sanctioned severely.

• The driver and groom:

  • A competent adult in the vehicle must accompany all drivers under the age of 16 (a parental authorisation form must be completed for minors and returned to AFPS-GEPS).

  • The groom must be at least 15 years old (with the parental authorisation for minors).

  • The driver and groom must wear a well fitting riding hat or helmet, and gloves.

  • Both driver’s and grooms attire should be appropriate, clean and elegant.

• The course:

  • Whilst the vehicle is stationary, the groom must hold the ponies head.

  • Any ponies behaving dangerously will be asked to leave the ring by the judge.

  • Penalties: minus 2 penalty points if a cone or ball is knocked down; if the allowed time is passed; if a course error is made; if the pony is disobedient; if the driver or groom shows a bad attitude or behaviour.

  • Canter is authorized.

Class proceedings: there are two driving classes. A driver may only participate in one of the classes, selecting Level 1 or Level 2.

DRIVEN LEVEL 1

 

First part: DRESSAGE

• The participant will enter the ring and continue on the right hand rein, when the judge asks he will go into trot. When the judge asks, he will change the rein and continue trotting on the left hand rein.
• The judge will ask him going back into walk, halt in the center of the ring and salute.
• The groom dressed correctly and in harmony with the driver will take his place at the head of the pony.
• The judge will examine the harness and vehicle (security, well fitting and cleanliness). The participant will then carry out their individual show of a figure of 8 in trot, a halt.
• The participant should go back into walk, then trot and head towards the next stage of the course: the combined test.

 

2nd part: CONES (this section is timed)

• Twelve (12) gates to be passed in order from 1 to 12. They are marked with two cones with balls balanced on them. The distance between the cones will be based on the individual vehicle width.
• At the end of the test, the participant will go back into walk, halt and salute to the judge.
• The participant will leave the ring calmly.


DRIVEN LEVEL 2

 

First part: DRESSAGE
• The participant will enter the ring and continue on the right hand rein, when the judge asks he will go into trot. When the judge asks, he will change the rein and continue trotting on the left hand rein.
• The judge will ask him going back into walk, halt in the center of the ring and salute.
• The groom dressed correctly and in harmony with the driver will take his place at the head of the pony.
• The judge will examine the harness and vehicle (security, well fitting and cleanliness). The participant will then carry out their individual show of a figure of 8 in trot, a halt and a few steps backwards.
• The participant should go back into walk, then trot and head towards the next stage of the course: the combined test.

 

2nd part: COMBINED TEST (cones & marathon) (this section is timed)
• Sixteen (16) gates to be passed in order from 1 to 16. They are marked with two cones with balls balanced on them. The distance between the cones will be based on the individual vehicle width.
• Three to four difficulties will be placed on the course, depending on the terrain they might be, going through a water obstacle, corridor, uneven ground, zigzag etc.
• At the end of the test, the participant will go back into walk, halt and salute to the judge. The participant will leave the ring calmly.

Marks given:

 

  • Presentation: turnout for the driver and groom, cleanliness and condition for the pony/ponies :  mark/10

  • Conformation, type: mark/25

  • Halt: mark/10

  • Walk: mark/10

  • Trot: mark/10

  • Paces/gaits, energy, canter: mark/25

  • Overall impression : mark/10

    • Driver: rein position and use, position in the seat, orders given.   

    • Pony or ponies: obedience, regularity, harmony.

  • Penalties (minus 2 points): if a cone or ball is knocked down; if the allowed time is passed; if a course error is made; if the pony is disobedient; if the driver or groom shows a bad attitude or behaviour.

Total : mark/100

 

Before the class, there is the possibility to walk the course.
